Biography for Christopher Wright

Born November 19, 1974 in London Ontario

The Son of Larry & Janette Wright

I discovered my love for drawing in Grade 2, often drawing in my spare time.

In grade 4 my public teacher had us keep a journal in which we had to draw or write everyday. I've always believed practice is the talent. My drawing development that year was proof. I still use tricks I learned that year.

Roughly age 12 I was making my money painting tiny lead miniatures and selling them. They were the finely moulded miniatures -Ral Partha and Citadel Miniatures that once I adorned with paint, sold weekly. It was in this obsession that I learned the qualities that allow me to paint in ultra fine detail.

I went to Medway High School located in Arva for grades 9-11, clashing with all of my art teachers there. The school made me see a psychiatrist due to an interesting story I wrote to entertain my friends. Then the school destroyed the story and erased it off of the network, I'd love to show you all now. I have mostly very bad memories of this school and wouldn't recommend it.

Westminster High school for grades 12 and OAC, and was encouraged in my arts here, creating political works that the principal would come to view when before it was me visiting the principal.

Recommended for BealArt , what a great place it was. Two years of study encompassing Life Drawing, Painting, Lithography, Etching, Textiles, Animation, Film, Photography, ceramics, Commercial design and Art History. Year End show sales showed me the business sides of art.

Mad hours of practice. I do a minimum of 2 hours a day with regards to practice and or creating. Practice practice practice. I could teach anyone what I know but with practice they could do the same. It's a fancy idea to think that I was born with all my talent but I know thats not the case. I watched as my artwork progressed faster than those who didn't practice. It's all a practice race.

Exhibitions

1994-5 BealArt Year End Show

1995 Londons Prescribed Art Show , group show

1995 Restored as a beautifull restaurant- Century Theatre

1996 My first ever solo show at The London New Arts Festival Gallery. with the success of the show (over 140 people packed into the tiny gallery on opening night) I nominated myself new gallery manager and was given control of the public space. The gallery (while being a permanent Chris Wright retailer) grew to three locations with about 22 volunteers. I turned it into a piece of art itself, hearing about the stories that were occuring with vistors when I wasn't there, always a slice of crazy weirdness.

1997 - The Green Tomato Restaurant - They also have a very good vegetarian menu.

1997 - S.A. Cafe Restaurant - I designed the storefront and look of this fancy place and it hosted a full supply of Chris Wright for several months.

1997-2000 St. Pauls Cathedral Art Exhibition. The largest annual art show in London. Over 100 artists. I love trying to show off, I never have any idea of what to expect. From the Kitch to the Wonderfull. Mostly nature watercolours and it isn't strange to see people walking around with wallpaper and couch samples looking to find matching artwork.

1998 The Funky Find Store Retailing Chris Wright prints.

1998 Hired to teach art classes at Grafix Art Supply Store.

1999-2001 King Street Gallery

2000 Forest City Gallery ,Member Show and Sale (poster can be found in the commercial section)

2000 The Jonathon Bancroft Gallery, BealArtists reunion show and others.

2001 Galleries in Galleria - three seperate showings

2001 London Regional Art and History Museum LRAHM Sales and Rental Gallery- Oil and Acrylic Paintings for sale

Now, I keep preparing for a new ultimate in solo shows with healthy portions in fine commercial art and marketing (commercial portfolio will be online soon). Everytime I think I have new pieces for it I think only the ones under construction are the ones to show. The progress makes it hard to appreciate the older ones. At the same time however some of the oil paintings take over a year.

Who finds this Bio silly and irrelevent? I kind of like the idea of a little secret, not like this is totally contrived or anything. I'm still playing with the style in this section but figured it would be better to put something up and if I'm bothered by it then a new and improved version will be on the top of my list. Actually I just wanted to put the spinning thumb up and I didn't have agood reason for it .. until now. Doesn't it seem at home resting and spinning warping ever so slowly at the top of the screen, how would I justify a click on it's own? Tricky. How do you sell that to the time saving net citizen. Nope, instead it comes free with this part. It's the promotion that makes it great, the freebies, the giveaways. Marketing is most everything.

If you thought there was some quality rambling on, going on here - wait until you get a chance to read "Chris Wright's Illustrated Meaning of Life". Supplies unfortunately very limited. For a sneak preview, I welcome you - click here!

I find this Bio (if you can even call it that) inapropriate or poor etc.. and here is why."....." or other comments, click here.
